München/Germany, 21. August 1999

Sunny blue sky above Munich – and the good feeling to see Jimmy in a few hours.  Not too long after arriving in the city of Munich the gig in the "Heizkraftwerk".was brouht to our attention through some flyers

flyer.jpg (6136 Byte)The "Heizkraftwerk" is an old thermal power-station which is now a disco.  In Munich we met up with two other Jimmy-fans and with them we waited the whole evening. The excitement built up from hour to hour.  Nobody knew the right time of the concert – the rumors were that the gig would begin – 9pm or 11pm or even at 1.30 am. So we decided at 20 pm (8pm) to drive to the "Kunstpark" – an area with many clubs and discos.  Of course the first trip was to the "Heizkraftwerk", so we could finally know when the gig would really start.  At the door was a paper with computer-written letters that showed us that admission would be at 11pm and that the concert would start at 1.30 am.  The door was open and so we went in and looked around the disco.  Except for a little stage, we saw nothing.  Now we had to pass the time for two hours which wasn´t really hard.  Then it was time – it was 11pm and we were allowed to go into this room where in less than three hours Jimmy Somerville would be live on stage. But what followed in the next 2 ½ hours was really cruel for our ears – House-Music. But who likes it...

Suddenly two powerful guys went unobtrusivly in through the main entrance and after them, with bowed head..... Jimmy. Nobody noticed anything.  Then a guy spoke to me in English and asked where I had gotten the T-Shirt I was wearing with the signature of Jimmy. When I found out that he was a friend of Jimmys, I asked him if it would be possible to do some photos with Jimmy.  He went backstage and some seconds later Carol, Jimmy´s manager, came out and asked me who I am.   I said that I am from the first Jimmy Somerville fan-page she opened the door and suddenly we stood in front of Jimmy.  My knees were trembling,  but it was a great feeling to see him in person, and he was in a fantastic mood.  We did a lot of photos and talked about so many things, among other about his tour where the rumor excisted that it wouldn´t take place. But he said immediately that his tour will take place later because of problems with a band.  We also spoke about his appearance in Freiburg at the "Radio Rgenbogen-Party" where most of the audience wasn´t enthusiastic about him, and this was the reason why Jimmy´s appearance only lasted 20 minutes instead of the planned 40 minutes. He told us, that he decided during the concert to cancel some songs because of the bad mood.  He was really depressed about this.  Then we said goodbye with only 15 minutes until the concert.  At 1.45 am he came on stage with his two background-singers Gillian and Matthew with an acapella-version of "Mighty Real"- now music which sounded great for our ears. The next song was "Why" and the audience was beside themselves with joy.  The enthusiasm was also fantastic at the still unknown new songs "Lay down", "Something to live for", "Stone" and "Someday soon". Jimmy became better from second to second because he realized that the people were really enthusiastic about him and his songs.

"Don´t leave me this way", of course with the well-known "Love to love me baby"-Intro was also at this time a big event. As an encore Jimmy sang "Never can say goodbye" – and the hall shaked.  At the end it became sad – Jimmy sang the slow and sad version of "Smalltown boy".  Under the loud applause he said goodbye to his fans – and looked very satisfied.  After this concert more than 80 % of the people left the disco – a clear sign the the most of them were only there because of Jimmy.

Finally: Jimmy showed clearly what a great singer he is. Jimmy is and will be the best.
