Dresden/Germany, 22.Januar 2000

The "Alte Schlachthof" of Dresden looks outside like a quite shabby place but inside it´s fantastic and an ideal place for a concert. So also for the first live-gig of Jimmy Somerville in Dresden. For weeks the "Schlachthof" was completely sold out - and in the evening it burst because of the big crowd. Between 2.000 and 3.000 people were there.
It was so overcrowded that some people did not get inside the hall which wasn´t so great. An alternative for these "unhappy persons"... they could see Jimmy´s show over a video-wall. The mood was heated through a fashion show of Dresdner-scene-landlords. And then the small man with the big voice came on stage and started his show with his well-known song "Why". The crowd went crazy.

This I can say without exaggeration. Besides from the usual program of old and new songs he also sang at this time songs like "By your side" and "Someday we´ll be together" from the album "Dare to love". Besides he also introduced his new song. Jimmy was backed by Matthew and Gillian like always and alsoby two fantastic dancers. Conclusion: In spite of the hopelessly overcrowded hall, Jimmy gave his best like always.   He showed again that he can fill big halls without new successful songs at the moment.

Fanmeeting - Dresden / Germany, 22.Januar 2000

January 22, 2000 was a special day for some Jimmy Somerville-fans. We organized a fan-meeting for the second time - this time in the wonderful town of Dresden.   And surely nobody will forget it - we spoke about a little surprise...
VOR JIMMY´S HOTEL We met at 5 pm in a small Italian restaurant where we had a room only for us. Even music of Jimmy Somerville was in the cd-player. Some pictures of the last meeting and cd´s went the round.   Around 7 pm we drove to the historical part of Dresden to the best hotel called "Kempinski". There we wanted to meet Jimmy in the bar. The scenery of the hotel was fantastically suited for some photographs of us. At this moment everbody knew that we would meet Jimmy, yet the mood was accordingly great. We thought that the barkeepers would be surprised about so many people but they were informed about the meeting.

JIMMY UMRINGT VON FAN´S

Finally Gunther, part of the management, came and said, that Jimmy will come in 10 minutes. Then he came, the small boy. And with "Hello" he greeted his fans. Jimmy was in a good mood and he gave autographs and signed T-Shirts.   He wanted to know everbody´s names, too. He also said that he will start a tour with a band this summer. In the background came his song "Why" and when Jimmy heard it he said "Please stop this song.   I can´t hear it anymore. It´s like a nightmare for me."   Finally we took some photographs together.
The whole time there was a camera-team from ZDF (a german tv-chanel) with us and they made an interview with Heiko and IwI, also with Jimmy. Our second fan-meeting was a big success, from the beginning until the not so wonderful end. But this you can read on another side - the report of the concert.
